The Coming Labor Shortage

Want to be a real contrarian?  Try arguing that there are going to be too many jobs this decade.  That is what the BLS does.

Total employment, a measure of all jobs in the U.S. economy, is projected to increase by 15.3 million over the 2008–18 period, representing a growth rate of 10.1 percent. ...

Because the 55-and-older age group has a substantially lower labor force participation rate than the younger group, the labor force is expected to increase by only 12.6 million individuals from 2008 to 2018. This average annual rate of growth of 0.8 percent will be considerably slower than the 1.1-percent annual rate seen over the previous decade.
