My Computer Sucks
Well, I've just about had it with Windows. I have no idea why, but my software is not allowing me to access the Internet unless I am in safe mode. It started Saturday night when I renewed my Zone Alarm firewall subscription. That set off a chain of events which lead me to spending many hours over at the house of my good friend Bill and who went beyond the call of friendship to help me on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and evening re-load my system and (temporarily, it seems) fix my problem.
But today, it stopped working again, and frankly, I've had it.
I am, admittedly, a technology dunderhead. My good friend Bill - who is a technology super-genius - has been telling me for years to get a Mac. I think I may have finally come to my senses and may take up his advice. It feels so good, after all, when you stop banging your head against a wall.
Ironically, I was going to start shopping for a new computer anyways as this one is a whole 18 months out of date. Actually, I got this Compaq Presario SR1010Z at CompUSA in one of these 6 hour deals for $199, so I really shouldn't complain. However, I came to realize soon thereafter that this one was too slow and didn't have enough power.
So I was waiting for the launch of Vista, and I was going to buy a PC with the new OS. But Vista has turned out to be a dud, and being a technology dunderhead, I really shouldn't be buying anything while the bugs are being worked out.
Frankly, though, I'm tired of having to deal with these software problems regarding security issues and the like. There are several things I have to investigate first, but if I can meet all my needs, then I think I might be picking up an Apple for the first time in my life.
In the meantime, being a technology dunderhead, I'm not sure what I can and can't do in safe mode. I'm going to attempt to continue posting for the time being, but I might be a erratic for a while.
However, pretty much everything can be summed up in this phrase: Be careful out there.
