Yesterday, I compared the lousy nonfarm payrolls data with the 1970s. Turns out, last month may have been bad, but not really bad. Yes, 533,000 jobs were lost, but on a relative scale, going back to 1939, there were 40 months worse than November.

Nonfarm Payrolls - Bad, But...
November nonfarm payrolls came in at -533,000. This was far worse than expectations of a 350,000 decline and probably beat the whisper number of -450k to -500k. This was the worst reading since December 1974, when NFPs fell 602k.
